Back to school…
And work!
We have moved my eldest back to college, youngling just started his last year of middle school, and at the end of July I went back to work part-time after nearly fourteen years of full-time mom life. It is surreal but amazing to be in a new season of life.
After my older son moved to college last year and my younger son started taking a bus for middle school, my time and flexibility changed dramatically. Since the family had graduated from elementary school, my main source of volunteering for the prior decade was also suddenly gone. By January, I was looking for new community-focused organizations to volunteer for and decided a part-time job was something to start searching for as well.
I took my time seeing what was out there and it was an exercise in reaffirming my work-life balance goals. I turned down opportunities that would take me away from being able to offer my younger son the support and extra activities that my older son enjoyed. I’m excited that I found something with limited hours and a flexible scheduling process that allows me to continue my writing journey and spend time supporting my family in the same ways I have since I quit my full-time job all those years ago.
The best part… I’m working in a library! It’s like the mother ship has called me home. My coworkers are lovely, supportive people and going to work a few days a week is a treat!
