I slowed down a bit with this genre. Just as in prior years, I grabbed a library haul in October for spooky season, but it was smaller as I was behind on some social media bookish challenges. I also received several NetGalley ARCs of mysteries and thrillers throughout the year. But after leveraging audiobooks for […]

Discovering new stories and tropes. Well, let’s make it official… I’m a romance reader! I’ve always listed “fantasy, sci-fi and mystery” as my main three genres, and I particularly enjoyed books that also had a romantic plotline. Read queer all year. It’s critically important to read diverse voices to increase empathy and drive action in allyship. In honor of Pride Month, here are my favorite queer books: SFF (Adult & YA) Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter world has many queer characters, but I love Alec and Magnus especially in The Bane Chronicles, The Red […]

Are for all ages. I have been pleasantly surprised by how some middle grade authors tackle complex issues in a kid-friendly way. Whether reading two copies of the same book side-by-side with my sons or listening alone to an audiobook, I have discovered many middle grade books to be a fun and uplifting experience for […]

Cozy and detective. During the last year, I’ve enjoyed quite a few mystery novels. I love getting a huge library haul in October for spooky season to avoid getting lost in SFF books. I also received a few of these from NetGalley or other digital ARC providers. I truly enjoy a good mystery investigation! Detective/Crime: […]
