If you want to try science fiction…

Here’s a starting point.

For the past year I have been trying to dive deeper into science fiction and/or dystopian books. I have only dabbled previously. Here are some standouts…

Adult

The first three books in Pierce Brown’s Red Rising Saga were all five-star reads for me. I fell in love with Darrow and his band of rebels. The action and character development is amazing. I hope the later books are just as good.

I adore The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. The hilarious sci-fi novellas are surprisingly tender as Murderbot—a security unit that hacked his governor module and has gone rogue—sorts through his feelings about humans and other bots. Note that book five is a full-length novel.

I also enjoyed:

  • Blake Crouch – Recursion
  • Nnedi Okorafor – Binti novella trilogy

Adult Sci-fi Romance

I am a fan of Jessie Mihalik. I really enjoyed the friendships and romance in Hunt the Stars and can’t wait to dive into recent release Eclipse the Moon, book two of the Starlight’s Shadow series. I also enjoyed her Consortium Rebellion trilogy.

Young Adult

The Skyhunter duology by Marie Lu was fantastic and I plan to hit her backlist in future.

I also enjoyed:

  • Victoria AveyardRed Queen series
  • Suzanne CollinsThe Hunger Games series
  • Ernest ClineReady Player One
  • James DashnerThe Maze Runner series
  • S.J. PrattThe 716
  • Leah ThomasBecause You’ll Never Meet Me duology
  • Paula WestonThe Undercurrent

Classics

  • Arthur C. Clarke2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Jules Verne Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • H.G. WellsThe Time Machine, The Invisible Man

And don’t forget Fantasy/Sci-Fi mix

  • Erika JohansenQueen of the Tearling series
  • Anne McCaffreyThe Dragonriders of Pern series

I can’t wait to discover more science fiction authors!
