Spring has arrived…

And with it, rebirth.

The world is getting greener, my plants are budding and flowering, and my pup and I are enjoying consistent walks again now that the temps are better. Our family spring break trip to Yosemite National Park was a combination of truly awe-inspiring views, nice hikes, undesirable rain and a cold virus knocking us down one by one.

Last week we got back to our regularly scheduled programming. The canine writing assistant kept watch at the window while I reminded myself what I had written the month before. It wasn’t much, but over the course of the week, this currently untitled witch & werewolf story grew from a few pages into a solid first chapter. I am purposely writing more slowly to see if I can make each scene sharper from the beginning, detailing all the sights, sounds, and textures. In the past, my first drafts have been mostly dialogue, unfolding action, world-building, and emotional reactions/developments. If this new attempt to set the scene better from the start doesn’t seem to be working for me, then I’ll just let myself go back to my first writing mantra: Just sit down and write already. I’ll let the “and then what happens” question repeat in my head and I’ll write write write until the full story is out.

Happy Spring!
