Not a lot of writing happening…
So here’s a reading update.
My writing group finished their critique of Dreamcatcher and I’ve submitted the first chapter of the next book in series, Dreamweaver. I haven’t written anything new in so long, but I hope to get back to creating new worlds and adventures this week.
Despite 2025 giving the Green family multiple plagues, injuries and a surgery, which forced the bulk of my time to be focused on caring for myself and family, reading lots of books has helped me decompress and heal.
I’ve read 50 books in full so far this year. Surprisingly, 23 were audiobooks. My increase in audio format is partly due to switching my genre focus from mainly nonfiction/memoir to a combo of mystery/thriller and romance. I tend to listen for longer stretches of time to fiction. Also, when I was really ill this winter, I found it difficult to focus on physical pages, so I just rested while listening to books.
6 of the 50 were 5-star reads and 5 were unfortunately 2-star reads (ARCs or just easy to finish to appease my curiosity). I DNFd (did not finish) an additional 12 books that weren’t a good fit for me. See details and reviews on Goodreads.
What’s on my TBR this spring:
- I have 5 ARCs on my NetGalley shelf with April-July release dates.
- I have 2 classics, 1 nonfiction, and 1 poetry collection on my physical TBR pile.
- For audio, I’m continuing to work through my mystery/thriller TBR list, with the occasional romance thrown in.
- Each month, I grab one reread. The next few will be Robin McKinley favs.
- When I grab monthly library hauls, it’s mainly my 25 in 2025 Instagram challenge books, which are all adult SFF releases from the last 5 years. To keep working on all my TBR lists concurrently, I’m also making sure I finish some SFF series that I started last year, grabbing one SFF young adult book, and a physical mystery or romance book that are unavailable in audio format through my library.
- I have a backlog of ebooks, so in between library hauls, I’m selecting one SFF, one mystery, and one romance. I hopefully will discover some great new-to-me authors.
Happy reading all!
