Variation in writing style…
Can be exciting to explore.
Last month, I finished major rewrites for my 4-book adult fantasy series, Dreamcatcher, and while I am still submitting chapters of book one to my writing group and making small edits, I have spent most of this month working on Red Hour. This new adult standalone fantasy novel—dare I call it a romantasy?—is incredibly exciting to write. The tone, vibe, and voice have been different from my other books from the first scene I wrote and I really enjoy any time I get to dive back into this world. The characters are a little rougher around the edges, the world grittier, and the violence and romance are more explicit than my prior works. I’m figuring out the balance of romance and action, filling in the plot gaps, and have only a few chapters to go! I’ve had the beginning, end, and pieces of the middle for a long time, so flushing out the in between moments and developing the plot and characters more has been very rewarding. I’ve had an incomplete draft for over two years, so I am hoping to finally have a complete draft by the end of May.
Wish me luck!
