Getting into a groove…
Makes me determined to sustain it.
I’ve been actively restructuring Dreamkeeper (book no3 in the Dreamcatcher series) to make sure the fantasy plot is progressing at a good pace alongside the family drama plot. I’m not sure I’m there yet, but this draft is a huge improvement over the last one, where the family drama not only derailed most of the fantasy plot for many chapters, it delayed important reveals that are the core of this book’s story arc. (Oops!) I am so grateful that I successfully ripped apart Seeds of Power two years ago, restructuring much of the information delivery and order of events to improve the overall pace and development. Knowing that I am able to take the best bits of a draft and shuffle it around into something new and better allows me to look at each manuscript critically and start again.
I plan to finish this book and move on to the rewrite of Dreammaster while book no3 is fresh in my mind—but if I catch myself looking longing at my (digitally) dusty manuscript of Red Hour, perhaps I will let myself dabble in there from time to time.
Times like this—when I’m feeling like I am accomplishing writing goals in addition to other life goals—I am so grateful for my reader, writer, full-time mom life!
