2023 Goal Check-in…
Not too shabby.
Bonds of Magic series:
- I have 3 more chapters of Land of Monsters (sequel to Seeds of Power) to submit to writing group and then I’ll finish any edits that come up.
- I finalized my query letter and synopsis for Seeds of Power ahead of schedule.
- I have not sent a query letter for SoP, which I had hoped to do by May 1st, but lots of school volunteering duties got in the way of my writing goals. Those commitments are all done soon so I anticipate querying in late June.
Dreamcatcher series:
- I edited book one so it’s ready in case an agent wishes to see more/different work.
- I wrote a draft synopsis for Dreamcatcher but not its own query letter at this time.
- I started to work on edits for book 2 Dreamweaver but that stalled due to the same reasons as above.
Red Hour:
- I wrote some new scenes for this previously 80% drafted standalone novel! I love these characters and I filled in the gaps with some good action sequences which is always fun to write.
Other:
- I have gotten into a better habit of regularly requesting Bookish First, NetGalley, BookSirens, and other ARC or book tour opportunities—while making sure I don’t overwhelm myself.
- I am having a great time growing my fun bookstagram account.
- I am still ignoring my Facebook page from an engagement/growth perspective but I am regularly posting content there still.
- I have not done much beta reading to support writers (beyond my regular awesome SFF writing group) but I have read a handful of ARCs and gifted copies to help indies with reviews/publicity.
- I have not yet tried to edit the short story I wrote last year. Hoping to dabble with that this summer after I force myself to “just send a query letter already” as my inner voice likes to nudge me to do.
Wish me luck that I make more progress this summer and fall on my 2023 goals!
