Spring is here, gone, and back again…
So it’s time to refocus on my health goals.
It was 80s and then it snowed on my pretty flowers and now it’s warm again. Welcome to the Midwest in spring!
Thankfully, I’ve been walking outside again instead of on the treadmill in the basement. I get bored on a treadmill and quit earlier than I should—even with audiobooks, coloring apps, and bookstagram to entertain me. When I go for a walk outside, I always pick a route that ensures a longer workout—because once I get a certain distance away, I have to make it back home!
The fresh air is good for my mind and spirit. Now that I’m listening to audiobooks on my walks, I haven’t gotten the benefit of creative brainstorming time like I used to, but despite that hit to my writing life, I like this routine more.
Audiobooks have greatly enriched my life since I discovered this format helps me tackle my nonfiction goals. I struggle to focus on nonfiction physical books so I used to make myself read a chapter a day like homework and then swap back to fiction. Now I listen to nonfiction while exercising, doing chores, or driving, and it’s been fantastic for my brain, while also not competing with my relaxing reading time.
My writing life has been a rollercoaster lately, but I’m trying not to beat myself up about it or get stressed by the lack of progress. I have volunteering commitments that have end dates in sight so during this next school year I should be able to focus more on my writing and publishing goals.
I feel like I have found a better balance in my reading life lately too, but I’ll share more about that in my next post.
Happy Spring!
