Balancing two projects…
Can help my creativity.
I was really excited to jump into edits of Dreamweaver (book no2 of 4 of my Dreamcatcher series) but… I lost some steam.
So I opened up Red Hour and wrote a few scenes I had skipped over when I originally drafted it. You know, that one action scene in the middle I wasn’t really ready to write. And the places where I knew my future beta readers would likely make a “show don’t tell” note. I felt really happy after I filled in those gaps in Red Hour. It’s a standalone novel so part of me really wants to finish it because most of my editing struggles with Dreamweaver have to do with “series” problems.
I want each Dreamcatcher book to be mostly similar in length and have a definitive plot arc of its own. I also need to move forward the bigger series plot pieces and develop the characters/relationships at the right series pace. Sometimes my problem-solving and planning stalls and I have to step away.
I pulled out Red Hour so I’m still working on something while that other project needs a break. I don’t switch back and forth in the middle of the day or even every other day, but it feels good to balance these two books during the course of a few weeks—especially since I can’t just edit edit edit all the time. I have to write new scenes. My brain doesn’t shut down and I have to get. it. out.
Wish me luck that I continue to make progress on two projects!
