Writing something…

Is better than nothing.

Yes, I’m still working through my edits of SEEDS OF POWER. Yes, it’s still exciting. But there were a few days during these past two weeks where I wrote different things because a new person or scene was in my head. I stopped thinking about restructuring SOP and wrote something new. I let my fingers fly simply for the sake of getting words on a page exploring different characters interacting in a non-fantasy world. On a different day I churned out 7k words of a crime scenario just for the heck of it. (BTW I can’t write crime plots. I wrote scenes around big holes.)

I almost told myself to stop and get back on track with edits. But writing something is sometimes better than nothing. I wasn’t in the right head space for editing. I had creative energies pulsing in my brain and needed to get that out instead.

So fellow writers, if you feel like you’re getting side-tracked, take a minute and really ask yourself if you are procrastinating or feeding a different need. Writing something new/different (even if it will never see the light of day) might be what you need to do. So sit down and write it already. And when it’s done, get back on track with your other writing goals.
