When the kids are away…

The writer can play.

I have a freshman in high school (that’s nuts) and a third grader that are both back in school. My trusty canine writing assistant and I now have the quiet and focus to edit. But we didn’t at first. I took two days to rest my mind and body after the back-to-school rush. Allergies and minor viruses had hit our family these past two weeks so I got some little tasks done around the house and read books until it was school pickup time.

Last Monday bright and early I dug into SEEDS OF POWER. I’ve been organizing my planned edits and chapter mapping (again). I’m trying to narrow down the beginning to only the scenes I truly need for this story. I am hoping it’s just a little bit tighter before querying.

It’s been an incredible week of new ideas, focus and a little bit of fear. Were any of those edits a mistake? Are the new transitions smooth enough? Will any of my early readers be willing to take another look at this? Is this enough now to catch an agent’s eye and make the leap into the world?

Time will tell. I will never regret taking steps to improve my writing and attempt to get published. This is an amazing journey. I am so grateful to my writing group and all my friends and family that were early readers. This final push is exciting!
